Easy create falling snow to add to an image

Free Christmas Photoshop Animation Tutorial. In this lesson you`ll learn some tips and tricks of how to make a cool snowman using easy drawing techiques and how to add falling snow animation to it. I want to use a famous saying to it: Let it snow and Merry Christmas to all. Enjoy Learning with Teach Tutorials in 2009!

   


  Start creating the file (File>New), that would have 500x313 px and 72 dpi and fill it with: #89dbf8
   
  First of all will make a snowman:
    Using Eliptical Marquee Tool (M, ) draw an oval shape like it is shown below:

and fill it with White (#FFFFFF)

Then repeat this step:



Let`s add some eyes using the Eliptical Marquee Tool (M, )



Really easy you can add now his smiley mouth with the same Eliptical Marquee Tool (M, )



For his nose will draw a carrot. Select Paths (Window -> Paths)



  and then take the Pen Tool (P, )
   

If you need to retouch the pen selection you can use the Add Anchor Pen Tool ():



After you`re done with the shape, Right-Click -> Make selection:



And fill it with: #f27934 ()



Add some texture to the carrot. Use Line Tool (U, )



Merge these Line Tool (U, ) layers you obtained and have all these shapes on one layer and then
set the transparency on 75%

  Snowman`s button:
    Select the Eliptical Marquee Tool (M, ) and draw the buttons:

  Snowman`s scarf:
    Paths Tool (Windows->Paths) and then take the Pen Tool (P, )



Right-Click -> Make Selection and the fill it with: #b5292d ()




Add some texture to the scarf - select the Marquee Tool (M, ) and draw 4 shapes:



and then Rotate them using Transform Tool (Edit -> Transform -> Scale) :




Merge the 4 layers and select the red shape behind these 4 rectangles, inverse the selection and
and being on the 4shapes layer press Delete



Let`s finish the scarf - New Path:



  Snowman`s hat:
    New Path (Window -> Paths), select the Pen Tool (P, )



Fill it with: #f9e4b6 ()






Right Click -> Make Selection and fill it with #a42b32 (). Use Eliptical Marquee Tool to fill the top of the hat
with White (fill shortcut: Alt + Delete)

  Snowman`s hands/branches:
    I`ll use the Line Tool (U, ) to draw the branches (you have the freedom to do it exactely how you like it). Here are
the settings:





Add a hill - with the Eliptical Marquee Tool (M, ) and fill it with White then make the shadow
and fill it with #c7c7c7 :


  Falling Snow Effect:
    Before i`ll start animating flakes let me improve a little bit what i`ve done here.
First of all apply these Blending Option settings to the snow (snowman and what i called 'hills'):







For animation - make a new layer on the top of the other layers and fill it with Black (#000000).
Filter -> Noise



Then, Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur (Radius = 1.5 px)

Then, Levels (Ctrl+L):



Then set the layer on Screen Mode



Repeat these steps as much as you want changing the noise amount to 71%, 72%, 73% and so on.

Save each frame as frame1, frame2, frame3 .... and import them in Adobe ImageReady:



The final image:

  Optional, you can add a snow ball. Using Eliptical Marquee Tool (M, ) and these settings:
